INSTALLATION BY ILJA KARSIKAS TO THE HELSINKI CENTRAL STATION
The “Kaivopuisto” installation by Ilja Karsikas will be seen at the Helsinki Central Station starting on Monday October 8th. Ilja has made the installation in co-operation with Finnish author Antti Nylén and musician Samae Koskinen.
The installation is based on Antti Nylén’s text which he wrote to our “Yellow City – Illustrated Strories from Helsinki” book. Inspired by the nature of the Kaivopuisto park and the text by Nylén, Ilja did a five-piece illustration for the book. Later on, that provided the basis for the large scale panorama.
For the exhibition, Ilja asked singer-songwriter Samae Koskinen to design the surrounding sound scape. Samae took to the task and composed a simultaneously majestic and minimalist piece for the piano. In the background you can hear sounds recorded in Kaivopuisto.
The essay, the illustrations, plus the music form a unique and a coherent whole when displayed together. What we get is the result of three artists joining their forces to present their combined vision of Kaivopuisto park.
The “Kaivopuisto” installation will be exhibited at the Helsinki Central Station for 2 weeks until 21st of October.
